Create new Design/Template

Here is a short follow thru how the template system works in JAKCMS. Download your favourite version PRO or LIGHT and unpack the ZIP file.

I will only explain you the PRO version, the structure is very similar,  the PRO version has only a few folders more.

After downloading the software and unpacking the zip file you will have following folder structure:

Please go to the template folder and in the template folder you will have a jakcms folder, this is the current template available.

To create your own, just copy and paste the jakcms folder and all the content in it and rename the folder in what ever you like:

Now go to your administration panel and you will see a new option in the dropdown, that is the folder name you just created:

Now you can choose your new template and start editing. You can either change only css or images or create a complete new html structure. It should be easy to understand how it works, then JAKCMS template system is only html, css and a bit of smarty code.

Important: Because JAKCMS is using a cache system, you have to delete all files, except the index.html, in the _cache directory located in your new created template folder. If you don't delete this files each time, you will not see any changes in your new design/template. You don't have to delete any files in the _cache folder if you only change images and stuff in the css files.

If you are planing to do a lot of changes or even create a new design/template, you can also disable the caching system in the config.php file, see screenshot:

If you done with your new design/template, it is important to set $smarty->compile_check back to false, otherwise the system creates all the time a new _cache file, what does not make any sense using a caching system.
